How do you Lead? Macro-Leadership vs Micro-Leadership

We Build The Culture!

Macro-Leadership vs Micro-Leadership

Macro-leadership and micro-leadership are different levels of focus. The macro-level is more about vision, strategy and future planning (Big Picture) whereas the micro-level is more about management of an organization's day-to-day activities (Tasks).

Here are some insights we’ve learned to help you mobilize a winning culture of innovators and achievers.  You know your culture so you will need to decide what management style allows your culture to be inspired. Let’s have a quick look on how we know can position you as leaders to get your company (employees) to achieve the impossible.

Here are two Levels of Leadership - "Big Picture" and "Task"

In todays culture, leaders set direction that others follow at two levels: "big picture" - the macro-level, and "task" - the micro-level.

  1. Macro-level:  Leaders enact transformational change in either the external or internal environment of the enterprise, or both.

  2. Micro level:  Leaders build transactional relationships with member of a team or an individual contributor for accomplishing specific tasks.

Through both roles, the potential exists for new leaders to emerge.

Key Take Away: Macro-leadership is strategic in nature because it affects the position and posture of the enterprise as a whole, and influences groups of its constituents. However, the leader must perform in the micro leadership role also, even as a leader of leaders, because transformational change can only be achieved through task accomplishment.

Key Take Away:  Micro leadership is tactical in nature because it addresses the behavior of a follower and their tasks. However, as the follower develops experience, they are equipped to assume more responsibility.

What is your Strategy?

Hustle Smart: Navigating the Fast Lane While Stackin' That CLV

Management Culture.png

For our Managers and Directors! We're about to drop some knowledge on how to roll with the rhythm of velocity and keep that Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) game strong. At CultureSparq, we're all about balancing that hustle and the long-term hustle. So, check out these tips and examples that'll keep you on that grind without losin' sight of the bigger picture.

  1. Know the Game: Velocity vs. CLV

Before we dive into the mix, let's get our lingo straight:

  • Velocity: That's the speed at which you drop new products or features on the block. It's all about stayin' on the cutting edge, making sure you stay ahead of the game.

  • Customer Lifetime Value (CLV): This metric tells you how much revenue a customer's bringing in over their whole journey with your brand. It's the long-term play.

  1. Tips for Balancing the Hustle

Now, let's break down how you can finesse the balance between velocity and CLV:

Tip 1: Strategic Prioritization

It's all about knowing what's hot and what's not. Use the MoSCoW method to categorize what's gotta drop, what should come next, and what can wait. Keep your eye on the prize – short-term wins and long-term success.

  • Example: A tech company might drop bug fixes and security updates ASAP (gotta keep things tight), but they also throw in some fresh, innovative features to stay relevant and in demand.

Tip 2: Get Agile with It

Embrace the Agile way – it's all about dropping tracks in small, frequent bursts. You can release features faster and adjust on the fly based on what the crowd is vibing with. It's a win-win situation.

  • Example: A marketing squad keeps the flow going with regular updates – little feature tweaks and fixes (keeping it fresh) while paying close attention to what the fans are saying. They tweak things up based on that feedback.

Tip 3: Keep it Customer-Centric

Your audience is your tribe. You gotta give 'em what they want, improve their experience, and keep 'em coming back. That's how you build that long-lasting connection.

  • Example: An e-commerce spot invests in a slicker, user-friendly interface. They're also about streamlining the process to drop those quick updates and stay ahead of the curve.

Tip 4: Hustle Real-Time

Stay on top of your game and adjust on the fly. The game's always changing, and you gotta be ready to switch up your flow when the situation calls for it.

  • Example: An online streaming service notices that their squad's not feeling the old-school interface. They decide to invest in a major facelift (for the long-term) and hold off on some new content (in the short-term).

Conclusion

In the game of business, you don't have to choose between speed and value. It's about keeping that equilibrium between dropping new hits and stacking that CLV. You've got to keep it fresh while building those long-lasting connections – that's how you win the game and stay on top of the hustle. So, managers and directors, stay motivated and keep the game strong!

5 Ways To Lead like A Boss

The Penguin's peril.jpg

How are you leveling up to become a boss?

Bosses must effectively manage, lead and inspire employees. This includes bringing in good managers who has the skills and experience to benefit the company mission, including the ability to motivate employees and align them with the company's vision.  This is important because leaders that carry out a boss vision are most likely an extension of the boss in like-mindedness.

Bosses should take their responsibilities seriously and find out what is needed to mobilize a winning culture to improve overall productivity. Being productive and effective in business is one of the biggest ways to to help your employees find purpose and meaning in their work.

Productivity is never an accident. It is always the result of a commitment to excellence, intelligent planning and focused effort.

Bosses need to set daily routines that lead to measured outcomes. Establish the mindset of understanding—Activity is not Productivity.  Trust me, I’ve been at this mental level some years ago and realized their is a better way I can manage my time and skills by focusing on what matters the most and executing it with smart planning, a clear vision and trusting the people I hire to do the same is helping me lead like a Boss.

You will need to figure out what works best for you and start small.  To help you level up, let’s have a look on some areas you can start practicing to help get you started in leading like a boss:

Here are 5 ways to lead like a Boss:

  1. Start Saying No. Your must be able to say No and hell no. Saying no is a sign of respect, Saying no when that's what you mean indicates respect for yourself and the other person. Because you're being honest and authentic is a quality that will cultivate healthy relationships. Another benefit of saying no is that you are modeling this behavior for others in your life.

  2. Increase Your Time. Time and energy equals economics so you must use your time wisely to improve your productivity not activity. For most bosses 70% of their time could be used better by focusing on getting the most out of every day. Part of this is writing things down. I do this every morning after my meditation, prayer and workout — I journal my weekly and daily goals then prioritize them on what matters most first.

  3. Communicate A Clear Vision. You must be mission-driven. A clear vision is critical to business success. For a boss to effectively lead his or her team, they need to have a clear vision of exactly what they want to achieve at work and in which direction their team should be going. A good boss is one who leads a team in a common and unified direction.

  4. Align leaders around your Strategy & Execution. Your must keep everyone energized and committed to the purpose of the company and use that as the fuel that keeps everybody rolling. Bosses do this while driving ownership of outcomes and buy-in by managing the process, content and conversations. Aligned teams and conversations are at the heart of alignment.

  5. Build A Solid Team. You should create a culture with a winning and accountability mindset. Great bosses create an environment that encourages team members to share information, skills, and support. They also expect their team members to demonstrate “good citizenship” values, not just meet tangible performance standards. Culture should always be your first priority - people can make or break you company.

REMEMBER

Take a quick start by shedding old, harmful habits and embracing new routines.  You don’t have to be perfect just keep going until this one sticks. You’ll feel better for it – promise!

How To Deliver Value Faster With Startup Teams

The Startup Culture. Pushing innovation and disrupting markets at speed — requires you to build startup teams.

We are mobilizing a winning culture!

We are mobilizing a winning culture!

Why You Should Have A Startup Team

If you want to push innovation and disrupt markets at speed — you will need to create startup teams filled with individuals that have the grit, passion and heart to make your organization valuable to the market.  Note, I did not say to the organization, I said to the market which has customers, problems and seeks memorable experiences.

You should establish an energy that is both customer-centric and value-centric. Instead of looking to do what’s safe, take risk and wake up to build a legacy that will be emulated for years to come.  Looking to please internal forces is counter-innovative; focus on the market, the customer and you will get the respect an watch some people extend a helping hand and laugh at those that are the haters. Either way you will own the energy in the atmosphere — it’s your world.

Building The Startup Culture

Workplace culture is still important will always be more important than products and services. In 2021, one of your leadership objective should be defining the company culture from the beginning to ensure the investment has a focus on time, talented resources, stronger communication, increased productivity, and capturing customer loyalty.

This year is a great time to consider mobilizing your own startup culture. Innovation is needed more and faster than ever.  Having startup teams makes Innovation Cheaper and Faster.   If you need to convince your company executives on investing in this idea — it should be easy by sharing with them your organization data.

Most company projects are not generating any revenue for about 18 months, because it takes time to build a new culture and to put ideas into practice —especially in larger organizations.  At CultureSparq, our value are aligned to delivering value in 6-12 weeks, that’s our bench mark when starting any new project from concept-to-customer-to-cash.

Startup teams is about being able to learn faster so you can get to executing the work and getting a return on the investment. Your company will begin to see the real value of a startup culture when you start talking about the ROI and pointing out how you was able to deliver innovation cheaper and produce faster than what you see with a traditional team settings.  So let’s have a look to how we can get you started.

Here how to strategize and execute startup teams to transform them into a startup culture:

  1. Have a compelling mission and vision, guide it, and drive its performance.

  2. Raise value in your organization by aligning your team and outsiders to your founding values.

  3. Adopt Agile practices to change key behaviors and help them adapt to ever-changing conditions. This will produce resilience and tenacity in your organization as well.

  4. Listen to customers, employees, and stakeholders to optimize the chances of succeeding with whatever is in front of the your organization from an execution perspective. Build the feedback in and persevere once you’ve heard their perspective.

  5. Reduce time you spend in the Design process and reinvest that into making personal connections with your end users/customers.

Key Point: Be sure to measure your objectives by attaching a number to it.

 REMEMBER

You need to have a team of A players who have grit, experiences in adversity and are passionate about making a difference in the world, and you need to focus immediately—as soon as you can afford to do so—on building that startup culture.

How To Build A Culture Of Bold And Courageous Leaders

How To Build A Culture Of Bold And Courageous Leaders.

The Heart of a Lion

Today we solute Robert Smalls because he displayed a leadership of boldness, imagination and courage.

What situation have you been in that required you to lead in a courageous way? Have you ever been afraid to lead? If you are like many CEOs, you have probably experienced both scenarios. Leadership cane an emotional roller coaster but it’s those leaders who embrace it and use it to fuel their adrenaline will be able to battle the fear, face it head on and overcome it as they move forward.

Courage is the most important of all the virtues, because without courage, you can't practice any other virtue consistently.

For example, courage is not the absence of fear but rather the commitment of one to overcome it. We often thing a leader who is bold and courageous does not feel the presence of fear, but that that couldn't be farther from the truth.

A true leader will need courage in an effort to build a culture of strong, imaginative and bold leaders. Courageous leadership requires to have the heart of a lion so in times when you need rise up and ascend beyond the challenges they face, you will gain the respect and following of the masses onward. Setting the stage for mobilizing a winning culture is an investment in yourself that will pay off time after time. When you look to lead other people , you must start with transforming yourself and put yourself in situations where you will inherit moments of using courage to overcome fear and Robert Small did just that.

Here are 3 helpful tips for creating a culture of bold and courageous leaders:

  1. Run toward the storms.  Encourage your teams to face challenges head-on by grabbing the bull by the horns to work towards a solution. Solutions are never solved on the level they were created. Identify the root of the problem, assemble the right resources, deploy a strategy and execution, measure the results and pivot accordingly.

  2. Set Bolder expectations. Never be comfortable with a culture that chooses the path of least resistance or playing life safe. Mobilize your employees to chase the path of excellence by defining expectations above and beyond what's easily attained to stretch the imagination of your teams.

  3. Elevate Their Mindset.  As a leader you will need to improve your performance first in order to enhance your approach to improving the team mindset.  You can do this through a set of core practices that guides your learning path towards excellence. Decide on what those core practices are need to be achieve your goals each year, provide a compelling vision of why and work towards improving your mindset.

REMEMBER

Building a culture of bold and courageous leaders will require you to take risks and test new ideas to enhance and elevate your company competitive edge in the marketplace. Building bold and courageous leaders is an investment that continues to pay off time after time.
